Roles of the AFDA
The AFDA is the peak organisation for the sport of Ultimate Frisbee in Australia.
It provides services for its members at the national and international level.
You may be surprised at how comprehensive the range of services is.
National Championships
The AFDA is responsible for awarding the right to host National Championships and overseeing the running of Nationals, including Open, Women's and Mixed competitions.
Newsletter
The AFDA provides a quarterly newsletter for its members, Australian Ultimate Magazine, which relays the latest news in frisbee from around Australia and the world.
Insurance
The AFDA provides personal injury and public liability insurance for its members throughout Australia. We also provide professional indemnity and public liability insurance for tournament directors, league organisers and affiliate administrators.
Website
The AFDA operates a website, www.afda.com, which is the central on-line resource for Ultimate in Australia.
Representative Teams
The AFDA is responsible for selecting players and teams to represent Australia at World Championships.
International Liaison
The AFDA is a member of the world governing body, the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF), which sets the rules of play and hosts world championships. The AFDA sits on WFDF Congress and assists in WFDF policy decisions.
Coaching
The AFDA works with the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme (NCAS) to provide coach education and registration throughout Australia.
Communication
The AFDA is responsible for administering a number of electronic mailing lists which are used for communication within the Australian frisbee community.
Government Liaison
The AFDA is recognised by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) and Active Australia and these relationships allow its affiliates to seek government funding at the state or local government level.
Policy
The AFDA leads the Australian frisbee community with member protection, anti-doping, gender equity, corporate governance and a range of other policies which its affiliates can use as a benchmark.
Archiving
The AFDA keeps a register of past national champions, representative teams, award winners and records of decisions made by the AFDA.
